Comments: One garage sale (a Derby Hill couple moving to Tasmania), one warehouse moving sale, also we went to the south Ft Collins Goodwill. Micah stopped in Goodwill for some lunch-hour thrifting while we were there, a nice surprise!
I have been looking for one of these bread machines for several years. I have been using the (older and smaller) model from this company for many years, and I love it. After reading recommendations and positive reviews about this machine from several sources, I put it on my list of things I was always looking for, and today was the lucky day I found one!
This model makes larger loaves in horizontal orientation, and is especially suited for making whole grain breads. It also has the capability to make many more kinds of things than my older machine, including cakes, jam, and a "light" sourdough starter ready in 2 hours, not sure how much I will use those features, if at all. For me, the allure of the this model is that it allows the breadmaking cycle to be customized by programming in desired times for the various actions within the cycle, which is something I am very interested in trying. I often wished my older machine had that ability, because the pre-programmed choices didn't always work with what I was trying to do.
So I was delighted to find this breadmaker at a moving sale this morning, it is in near-new condition and was priced at a very fair $40. (This model originally sold for about $300. It has been discontinued, but its replacement (with only a few added features) goes for about $200.)
This machine has a powerful motor (necessary for kneading whole grain breads), 2 kneading paddles, and non-stick pan and paddles. Very nice!!
And it came with the users manual/recipe book as well as a folder of useful info printed from the web.
Here is the rest of the day's haul:
- fork--10 cents
- very nice garlic press (like a mini potato ricer!)--49 cents
- plastic Cusinart rice machine paddle--49 cents
- softcover, Citizen Soldiers by Stephen Ambrose--99 cents
- hardcover, Airframe, by Michael Crichton--99 cents
- Golden Guide, Fossils--50 cents
- softcover, Frommer's 2006 pocket guide to Amsterdam--99 cents
- cool hook--Joe bargained and got this free with the breadmaker
